In 1980, as a 25th wedding anniversary present, I gave my folks "dinner for 2" at El Pescador Restaurant at K41.5 on the northern end of the Peninsula known as Baja California, Mexico. At the time I had been an avid surfer for most of the 20 years of my life. My ulterior motives were quite transparent but my generous parents were game and obliged us with an offer to rent a house in the area. We had been visiting the local breaks for half a dozen years and we were frequent campers at Baja Malibu, Popotla, El Morro, K38, Raul's, Pescador, 55's, Salsipuedes as well as less frequent visitors to many points south.

I had always wondered what lurked behind the big white walls of the place that displayed the placard "Las Gaviotas". Armed with a deposit I secured a big white house on the back row for a weekend visit. What has ensued is a love affair that has spanned decades and many dimensions. One of which is a productive and fun surf spot that throbs inside those big white walls. Below are some surf photos that are the unfortunate product of not being a photographer or having the patience to watch and not surf.  However, I think you'll enjoy them.
